White Thyme Oil (Thymus Vulgaris)
White thyme essential oil is the more common variety but if you come across red thyme essential oil, do not use it, since it irritates the skin.
Egyptians used thyme oil for embalming because of it’s strong preservative properties.
Scent: spicy, warm, herbaceous scent
Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the leaves.
Color: Pale yellow to orange-yellow
Properties: soothing, warming, gentle.
Cautions: Possible skin irritant, must be properly diluted. Avoid during pregnancy.
Easy uses of thyme oil
Cheer me up – 3 drops thyme and sweet orange essential oils in a diffuser, bath or massage oil.
Grounding and focus – 2 drops thyme and 4 drop bergamot essential oils.
Blocked nose: steam inhallation of 3 drops white thyme and peppermint essential oils.
Cold and flu: 3 drops white thyme and lemon and 1 drop clove essential oils in a base oil, use as a chest rub. Powerful anti viral.
